On Saturday, December 3, Romania started gas exports to the Republic of Moldova through the Iasi-Ungheni pipeline. It is the first time when the pipeline has become functional.
The event takes place in a challenging context for Moldova. The country is crossing a harsh winter as Russia halved its gas exports and threatened to stop the exports to the Republic of Moldova.
Romania has always been ready to help the sister country, and the Iasi-Ungheni pipeline has been built to accomplish this goal: supplying Moldova with Romanian gas whenever necessary.
On Saturday, the gas transport started in the direction Romania – Republic of Moldova. 1,023,266 cubic meters are nominated. The compressor works normally

Currently, Romania ensures 90% of the gas consumption in Moldova. Luckily enough, Romania has reported it had 90% of the gas storage filled for the winter. This enables Romania to help the neighbouring countries in need, especially Moldova, which has no gas resources on its territory.
