Wizz Air Celebrates 100 Million Passengers in Romania

In a remarkable milestone, Wizz Air announced that it had transported 100 million passengers from Romania since beginning its operations in the country in 2006. This achievement highlights Wizz Air’s significant presence and commitment to the Romanian market, where it operates as the most significant air operator.

Expansion and Growth

Over the past 18 years, Wizz Air has expanded its operations in Romania, establishing seven bases nationwide. These bases are in Bucharest Baneasa, Bucharest Otopeni, Cluj-Napoca, Craiova, Iasi, Sibiu, and Timisoara. The airline offers over 173 routes from 13 Romanian airports, connecting passengers to 71 destinations across 22 countries. This extensive network underscores Wizz Air’s role in enhancing Romania’s connectivity with Europe and beyond.

In 2025, Wizz Air plans further expansion, including opening a new base at Bucharest Baneasa with one aircraft and seven routes. Additionally, it will base its 20th aircraft at Bucharest Otopeni, now the largest base in the Wizz network, and introduce new routes from Craiova, Sibiu, and Cluj-Napoca. These developments demonstrate the airline’s dedication to serving the evolving needs of Romanian travelers.

To mark this milestone, Wizz Air is offering a special promotion. Between March 31 and April 6, 2025, 100 Romanian passengers flying with Wizz Air will be randomly selected to receive EUR 30 travel vouchers on flights from all seven bases nationwide. This gesture reflects the airline’s appreciation for its loyal customer base in Romania.

Statement from Wizz Air

Mauro Peneda, General Manager of Wizz Air Malta, emphasized the airline’s commitment to the Romanian market: “Proving Wizz Air’s relentless commitment to the Romanian market, we celebrate today the astounding number of 100 million passengers that chose to travel with us since 2006. This great milestone comes in yet another year of important growth for the airline on the local market. We want to say a big « Thank you! » to all Romanians who step on board our aircraft every day.”

Impact on Romanian Aviation

Wizz Air’s operations have significantly contributed to the development of Romania’s aviation sector. The airline’s continuous investment in route network expansion has given Romanian travellers more choices and flexibility for leisure, business, or visiting family abroad. This growth also supports local economies through job creation in associated industries.

Wizz Air’s achievement of transporting 100 million passengers from Romania is a testament to its enduring commitment to the market. As the airline continues to expand its operations, it remains a vital player in enhancing Romania’s connectivity with the rest of Europe and beyond.
