Covid-19: Tighter Restrictions in Romania Starting on Sunday, March 28

As the third wave of COVID-19 pandemic spreads throughout the country, Romanian authorities want to enforce preventive measures to help the hospital ICUs manage the critical condition patients.

This is the context of the tougher measured adopted in Romania starting from Sunday, March 28. These are adopted according to the infection rate calculated by the new standard for each individual locality.

Thus, if you live in an area where the infection rate exceeded 4 per thousand inhabitants in the last 14 days, then you have to obey the following rules:

  • curfew starts at 20.00 on Friday, Saturday and Sunday
  • curfew starts at 22.00 for the rest of the week days
  • shops close at 18.00 on Friday, Saturday and Sunday
  • after these hours, you only exit your home if you have a proper reason and assuming the reason on a written statement (e-written accepted as well)

If you live in an area where the infection rate exceeded 7.5 per thousand inhabitants during the last 14 days, then you have to obey the following rules:

  • curfew starts at 20.00 any given day of the week
  • shops close at 18.00 any given day of the week
  • after 20.00 you exit your home only if you have a proper reason, in the same conditions as mentioned above.

Romania has officially registered so far 936,618 COVID-19 cases and 23,114 deaths associated with COVID-19 infection. On the other hand, in Romania there were vaccinated with both doses close to 1 million people and the country keeps a good vaccination rate.

The Romanian PM wants the country to immunize 70% of the adult population by vaccinating 10.4 million people by September.
