The World’s Oldest Man Is Romanian

The world’s oldest man is a Romanian. Starting from Thursday, May 28, Romanian Dumitru Comanescu, a Bucharest city dweller, becomes the oldest man in the world at 111 years and 7 months lived so far.

Dumitru Comeascu was the second oldest man in the world, but on Thursday occured the death of British Bob Weighton, who died at 112.

Born on November 8, 1908, Dumitru Comanescu worked, most of his life, as an agricultural engineer, a job he retired from in 2003. A pensioner now, he said his secret for longevity was the love received from his family, from his wife, from his sons and from his nephews.

There is a catch, though. Dumitru Comanescu might be the world’s oldest man verified, as other sources say the world’s oldest man is Brazilian Olimpio Martins Pires (allegedly born on 24 August 1908) , whose age is currently unvalidated by the Gerontology Research Group (GRG).Yet, unverified, the Brazilian can’t be recognized as the oldest man in the world.

As a curiosity, men lifespan is largely known to be shorter than women’s. Thus, the oldest living person in the world is a woman – Japanese Kane Tanaka. She is 117 years old, 5 years and 5 months more than Dumitru Comanescu, the oldest man alive.

Despite the controversy and the sources which offer various data as to who is the world’s oldest man, as this is a subject disputed both by the Guiness World Records and the Gerontology Research Group, along with other platforms and websites, the performance of the Romanian is to be noted. The Romanian is a living proof that the age could be just a number and the lifespan could be prolonged if living a healthy and happy life.
