UEFA EURO 2020 Trophy Presented on National Arena in Bucharest

UEFA 2020 Trophy was presented on National Arena in Bucharest on Sunday, April 25. The presentation is part of an awareness-raising caravan across the 12 cities (now 11 after Dublin was excluded) where the games are scheduled to be played this summer. The event was postponed after in 2020 the COVID-19 pandemic spread across the world.

During the ceremony, the trophy was offered to the ambassador of Bucharest during the UEFA 2020, the former football player Dorinel Munteanu.

The smiley faces of the Romanian organizers couldn’t hide one sad but true fact: in spite of organizing 4 of the games in June, Romania hasn’t qualified with its national team. It’s the first time in history when the host or co-host country doesn’t have its national team playing for the European championship.

Instead, Bucharest will see playing the national teams of Ukraine, North Macedonia and Austria, but also a round of 16 is to be played on National Arena as well. Only 12,500 fans will be allowed on National Arena in Bucharest, 25% of the stadium capacity, as UEFA made it clear that the co-hosting cities have to allow spectators inside the stadiums disregard of the pandemic prevention rules, otherwise they’ll lose the organization.

More about the matches played in Bucharest you can find by accessing the dedicated page to UEFA EURO 2020 on one of the Bucharest travel platforms.
