Romanian Glamping Site on Guardian’s Travel Discoveries 2021 List

Glamping. An expression coined to combine two different words into one. Glamping is, basically, glamourous camping. It defines that sort of camping with style. The tents are no longer only tents. They are small apartments with all that is necessary to make a living. Besides, the spectacular views surrounding the glamping sites give you that particular feeling of complete relaxation.

There are quite a lot of glamping sites in Romania. Some are more famous than others. But none has got to The Guardian’s page so far. Until now.

The Guardian mentions Dobraia, a glampsite in the wild Cerna mountains, in its Top Travel Discoveries in 2021. Dobraia? We bet few Romanians heard about it, let alone the foreign tourists. But its presence in the top is more than welcome for the small village.

Dobraia is actually one of the remotest villages in Romania. Situated in Caras-Severin, Dobraia met almost no civilization so far: no modern roads and the lack of modern conditions to live barely make Dobraia a travel destination. But this is precisely what glamping tourists look for: distant locations, exquisite landscapes to surround you, and selected tourists. No one looking for exclusive and remote destinations would cope with a crowd of tourists around him or with noise and pollution.

The remote camp inside the Domogled-Valea-Cernei national park, in Romania’s little-visited Banat region, is not easy to reach: it’s a seven-hour drive from Bucharest, and then a steep two-hour hike (a rough track reaches the spot, but you need an off-road vehicle). Yet it’s worth every step when you finally see four white bell tents (each costing about £35 a night) gazing at limitless mountains.

£35 a night is affordable to any international traveler. Of course, you still have to pay for getting there, food, and any other services you need to buy while in Romania. But still, Dobraia and all the other glamping sites in Romania definitely worth visiting.

Fancy staying at a glampsite? You can book one on Dobraia glamping’s Facebook page. Or, if you want some diversity, you can check other glamping locations in Romania on booking. Any of them could offer you that dream vacation you wished for so much time.
