Romania Prepares for Possible Nuclear Incident

The Romanian Government will purchase a camping package for operative interventions worth EUR 82 million in case of a nuclear incident.

In the context of the armed conflict in Ukraine and the danger of a nuclear accident at the Zaporizhia nuclear power plant, The National Administration of State Reserves and Special Issues (ANRSPS) has launched an auction of 300,000 beds and 135,000 sleeping bags.

The National Administration of State Reserves and Special Issues published the notice of participation for the “Framework Agreement for the supply of Camping Package for operational interventions, composed of the following maximum quantities of products: 3,246 tents, 293,137 beds, 285,955 blankets, 135,679 sleeping bags, 430,787-bed mattresses, 830,691 sheets, 402,586 pillowcases, 430,928 pillows, 152,000 tracksuits and 152,000 t-shirts.

These products will be distributed in different regions of the country. The motif for this critical acquisition would be the context of a possible influx of people from Ukraine, from the Zaporizhia area, where the nuclear power plant is located.

Romania wants to show its willingness and readiness to help the states in the vicinity dealing with crises, such as Ukraine and the ongoing war it faces with Russia.

”The massive purchasing of massive equipment and clothing is for preparing in case an influx of citizens and stateless persons would enter Romania from these danger zones […]”
