Romania becomes the top “foreign” investor in the Republic of Moldova. The Moldovan Ambassador to Bucharest brought the news.
According to H.E. Victor Chirila, Romania’s investments in Moldova exceeded Russian investments, and it is, so far, the top commercial partner of the Republic of Moldova.
The Republic of Moldova signed the association agreement with the European Union (EU) in 2014. He also signed a comprehensive and in-depth free trade agreement with the EU. From that moment, our trade with Romania tripled for ten years, from one billion euros to three billion euros. These two agreements, among their multiple provisions, also have one very important for our states: the accession of the Republic of Moldova to the single economic market of the European Union. In real terms, this means economic integration with Romania, with the Romanian economic market, and creating a single, common economic market between the Republic of Moldova and Romania. And this is happening. The trade figures prove this. Today, Romania became the first commercial partner of the Republic of Moldova, far, far ahead of the Russian Federation and other partner states of the Republic of Moldova

Also, Victor Chirila referred to the special relationship between the two countries and said that Romania is a “so-called foreign investor.” Here, we must mention that for most Romanians, Moldova is their sister country.
Romania is also the first so-called foreign investor in the Republic of Moldova. Over 400 million euros, companies, and private investors from Romania have invested in the Republic of Moldova, but this also happens vice versa from the Republic of Moldova to Romania. According to official data, investors from the Republic of Moldova have invested over 80 million euros. Let’s consider that many citizens from the Republic of Moldova register their companies and activities here in Romania based on their Romanian passports. We can say that this amount is much higher.

The announcement comes when the two sister countries strengthen commercial, economic and diplomatic liaisons and try to help Moldova step onto the European path. Moldova and Georgia applied to join the EU in 2022, and Romania proved to be the closest aid Moldova had during this time. According to Maia Sandu, Moldovan President, Romania has helped Moldova overcome all the crises.
