Hans Klemm, the departing American ambassador to Bucharest, was conferred the highest Romanian order by the Romanian President, Klaus Werner Iohannis, on Tuesday, December 10.
Hans Klemm received the National Order „Star of Romania” in Great Cross degree for his contribution to the development of the relations between Romania and the United States of America and for the strengthening of the strategic partnership in its economic and military aspects.
His presence and activities in Romania brought both praising and critics. He was praised for his encouragement of the democratic movements and criticized for its „urges” sent to Romanian institutions which are supposed to be independent, such as the Romanian Parliament.
The departing ambassador is to be replaced by a Romanian born ambassador, Mr. Adrian Zuckerberg.
