Romanian Constitutional Court Gives Greenlight to No-confidence Motion Procedure against Government in Parliament

Romanian Constitutional Court ruled in favor of the no-confidence motion against the Government to enter the normal procedure in Parliament. This could be the end of Florin Citu as the head of Government.

Both USR-PLUS and AUR, two of the Opposition parties, endorse the no-confidence motion against the Government. PSD – Social Democratic Party has its own no-confidence motion in hand, in case the USR-PLUS and AUR motion is not successful.

Prime Minister Florin Citu has just won the National Liberal Party internal elections, becoming the new leader of PNL. This has not changed his fate, though, as the former coalition allies, USR-PLUS, announced they categorically reject getting back to the ruling coalition as long as Florin Citu is the Prime Minister.

This political instability is not going to finish soon. Moreover, the main Opposition party, PSD – Social Democratic Party, sees this as an opportunity to call for early voting. The confidence of the voters in PSD increased to 35% and the party could win the elections if organized any time soon.
