In an attempt to limit global warming to under 1.5 degrees C, on Thursday, the European Parliament adopted a resolution declaring climate and environmental emergency in Europe and worldwide. Also, European Parliament stated EU should cut emissions by 55% by 2030, in order to become climate neutral by 2050.
These are drastic measures to be supported at the UN COP25 Climate Change Conference, which is to be held in Madrid, between 2-13 December.
The resolutions adopted today show how difficult is the situation for the entire world, and European Union positioned itself firmly on the side of the environmentalists who say global warming is caused mainly by fossil fuels. Thus, MPs urgently call on all EU countries to phase out all direct and indirect fossil fuel subsidies by 2020 and called to reduce global emissions from shipping and aviation.
Will the USA follow the trend? There is a very little possibility for this to happen, as Donald Trump was the president to announce last year the withdrawal of the USA from the Paris Convention on climate.
