Romanian Hospitality Business Owners to Sue Romanian Government if the Restaurants Do Not Reopen

Romanian hospitality business owners announced that they will sue the Romanian Government for undermining the national economy, if the restaurants from the hotels do not reopen on June 15.

On March 17, the authorities decided to close hotels, restaurants and cafes in Romania. Almost two and a half months have passed since then, a time that has meant a struggle for survival for everyone in the Romanian Horeca industry.

Romanian hospitality business owners intend to sue the Romanian government to undermine the national economy, if hotel restaurants do not open on June 15, when more than 500,000 Romanians have already purchased accommodation in the country, with meals included, which they cannot be provided in these conditions. Even a two-week delay in the opening of hotel restaurants puts Romania at a great competitive disadvantage compared to other countries in the area, which have already lifted these restrictions and, at the same time, are bankrupting more. of two thirds of the hotels in the country.” according to a communicate of the Federation of Romania Hospitality Business Owners.

President Klaus Iohannis announced on Tuesday new relaxation measures that will take effect after June 15. “It will be possible to reopen the malls, but without restaurants or playgrounds, it will also be possible to reopen private kindergartens and nurseries,” said President Klaus Iohannis.

The situation of Romanian hospitality industry is critical, as there are about 400,000 people who already lost their jobs in hospitality or are in a temporary leave (technical unemployment).
