Romania Triumphs with GrandSlam Gold at the 37th German Open Championships 2025

Romania has once again proved its prowess in the world of sportive dance with an outstanding performance at the 37th German Open Championships (GOC), held between August 19 and 23, 2025, in Stuttgart, Germany. This prestigious event, known as one of the largest and most competitive dance sport championships worldwide, attracted elite dancers from across the globe, yet Romania emerged as a clear leader.

The 37th German Open Championships (GOC), one of the most prestigious events on the international dancesport calendar, delivered a day of unforgettable competition and celebration. Among the many memorable moments, Romanian dancers Rares Cojoc and Andreea Matei captured the spotlight by winning the GrandSlam Standard Adult title, a historic achievement for Romania’s presence in the dance sport world.

The event unfolded in the stunning Beethovensaal of Stuttgart’s Kultur- & Kongresszentrum Liederhalle, where top athletes from juniors to seniors competed fiercely across multiple categories. The GrandSlam Standard Adult final was the highlight of the day, with Cojoc and Matei mesmerising the audience and judges alike with their breathtaking performances.

Following their triumph at the Wuxi Grand Slam last month, the Romanian duo reaffirmed their dominance, delivering solo dances of exceptional artistry in the Viennese Waltz and Slow Foxtrot. Their entrance, descending from the tribunes to the floor, created an intimate atmosphere that magnified every step and gesture, earning applause and admiration throughout the venue.

The final podium featured:

  • Gold: Rares Cojoc and Andreea Matei (Romania)
  • Silver: Dariusz Mycka and Madara Freiberga (Poland)
  • Bronze: Dmitri Kolobov and Signe Busk (Denmark)

Other standout Romanian performers included Georgy Kalashnikov and Grigore Daria, who ranked fifth in the same category.

Romania’s excellence extended beyond the Grand Slam final. The junior category was graced with silver medals won by Babaian Yelysei and Dobre Irina Ioana in the Junior II Latin, while Elisabeth Malik secured second place in Juvenile II Solo Latin Female. Paul Ioan Pascar and Melani Bartosevic placed fourth in the U21 Latin category.

The day was not only about competition but also emotion, highlighted by a heartfelt farewell to dance legends Marius-Andrei Balan and Khrystyna Moshenska. Their final dance, accompanied by a tribute video and the presence of three-time World Champion Franco Formica, brought standing ovations and tears from the audience, symbolising an extraordinary career commemorated with dignity and respect.
