Red Romania: Socialists Won Most of County Councils

A map compiled by the local platform Stiri pe surse shows the voters mainly chose Socialists to run the county councils in Romania.

Romania had both Euro Parliamentary and Local elections on Sunday, June 9. If the vote for the European Parliament showed a landslide victory for the Socialist-Liberal Alliance (PSD-PNL), the local elections show a drastic victory for the Socialists.

According to the partial results of the Central Electoral Bureau, PSD (Socialists) obtained 27 county councils, PNL (Liberals) obtained 11, and UDMR (Hungarian minority) 4 county councils.

Bucharest Mayorship was won for a new mandate by the independent Nicusor Dan.
