Romanian Permanent Electoral Authority says voter data is not used for taxation purposes

The Romanian Permanent Electoral Authority informs that the number of voters from abroad who registered until September 6, 2019, at 16:00, with the option to vote by correspondence is 22,636 persons and exceeds the number of those who chose to vote at polling station.

The data collected from the Romanian citizens with the right to vote abroad will be used only with regard to the electoral process, for various administrative or criminal investigations and “in no way regarding the fiscal level authorities for taxing or accessing them,” said the President of the Authority Permanent Elections, Constantin-Florin Mituleţu-Buică. This statement comes în the context of popular belief that the authorities will use the data for taxation purposes for all those who work abroad and haven’t yet declared this to the Romanian authorities.

The Romanian authorities asked all voting citizens who intend to register on the portal to act individually, respecting the principles of honesty and fairness, and not to disclose their own personal data to third parties in order to facilitate the registration of a group of voters by a single person.
