There is a crisis in the labor market, and this is what the Romanian Minister of Labor, Constantin Budai, admits in his message issued on May 1st, Labor Day.
He talks about the most vulnerable persons that are hit during these times and the opportunities appearing during this period.
If in the last two years International Labor Day has been overshadowed by the harsh restrictions imposed by the Covid-19 pandemic, this year, although we are free to be together, we are feeling the effects of the war.

We are all witnessing the destruction of tens, hundreds of thousands of jobs, businesses and lives. Like the crisis caused by the pandemic, the labor market crisis caused by the war will hit hardest on the most vulnerable.
In these times, more than ever, we must stand in solidarity and remain focused on the needs of the people most severely affected by the effects of the pandemic or war.
Yet, the minister keeps his optimism regarding the future of the labor market in Romania.
Although we are going through a difficult period, it also brings new possibilities that we can and must exploit. Happy birthday to all those who work and bow before all those who have been on the front lines to help their fellow pandemic victims, and now they are doing their job with devotion and come to the aid of those fleeing the war!

Yes, the opportunities appear during most crises. Yet, these opportunities are not for the average citizen having a 9 to 5 job or for the average pensioner going to the local market each Sunday. And the Romanian Government has to find ways to protect the most vulnerable persons and offer support to the entrepreneurs as they create jobs. Otherwise, with rampant inflation and the loss of attraction to investors, Romania’s economy could be hit harder than estimations.
