Simona Halep is Romania’s second representative to play the Wimbledon final after Ilie Năstase, who lost the finals from 1972 and 1976. Halep defeated Elina Svitolina, 6-1, 6-3, in the Wimbledon tournament semifinals, qualifying for the first time in her career in the final of this Grand Slam tournament.
“I fight to the end, I want to win every game. It does not matter who will be in the next match, it’s a final, it’s the last match of the tournament and no matter who it is, I’ll do my best to win,” said Simona Halep. Simona Halep will play on Saturday in the tournament final with either Serena Williams or Barbora Strycova from the Czech Republic.
The Saturday match will be the fifth final Halep attends at Grand Slam, after three at Roland Garros and one at the Australian Open (2018). In 2018, she won the Roland Garros tournament.
