WHO Warns Europe to Be Hit with ‘Three More Waves of Coronavirus’

According to the regional director of the World Health Organization, (WHO) Europe and the US could face another three more waves of coronavirus. With a number of cases approaching one million, Europe is at the center of the coronavirus pandemic, and measures to ease restrictions should be treated with great caution, warned the World Health Organization’s regional director.

“The threat of this pandemic is putting enormous pressure on Europe. The number of infections throughout the region continues to grow. In the last ten days, the number of reported cases has almost doubled, reaching almost one million. That means half of COVID-19’s global balance sheet is in Europe, “said Hans Henri P. Kluge, the World Health Organization’s regional director.

Of the top ten countries in the region with the most cases of infection, there have been optimistic developments in terms of declining infections in Spain, Italy, Germany, France and Switzerland in recent weeks. However, these small positive signals from some countries are offset by the steady or sharp rise in cases in countries such as the United Kingdom, Turkey, Ukraine, Belarus and Russia. The coming weeks will be critical for Europe.

On the other hand, according to several officials, the World Health Organization is to be blamed for hiding the scale of the epidemic in China. Donald Trump has announced that he will suspend US funds to this organization. From this perspective, the warnings from WHO can be seen as a late attempt to finally do its job.
