Transfăgărășan opens on Saturday!

Transfăgărășan, the second highest road in Romania after Transalpina and ”the most beautiful road in the world”, as the former presenter of BBC Top Gear, Jeremy Clark, stated in 2009, when they filmed in Romania, opens two days earlier this year. On Saturday, June 29, Transfăgărășan opens its beautifully paved curves and its picturesque landscape to the general public.

Transfăgărășan is a mountain crossing winding road, which stretches for 90 kilometers between the highest mountain peaks in the country, Moldoveanu and Neagoiu, from the village of Bascov, near Pitesti, and the crossroads between National Road 1 and Sibiu.

For the driving enthusiasts who can hardly wait to get there, be aware that, because of the shape of the road, with lots of S-curves, the average speed on Transfăgărășan is 40 kilometer per hour. Don’t get upset, though – the landscapes will definitely make you wanna stay more on this magnificent road!
