Slovenia Beats Romania 3-2 in Billie Jean Tennis Cup, Teaches Valuable Lesson

Slovenia beats Romania 3-2 and qualifies for the finals of the Billie Jean Cup. The tie between the two teams was played in Sports Park Bonifika, Kope.

Romania was the favourite of this match and even led after the first day, 2-0, after Ana Bogdan won versus Kaja Juvan, while Jaqueline Cristian beat Tamara Zidansek.

Kaja Juvan vs Ana Bogdan 6-3, 3-6, 4-6

Tamara Zidansek – Jaqueline Cristian 1-6, 6-4, 3-6

The second part of this match showed another face of the Slovenian team. They succeeded against the Romanian players and equalized the result: 2-2.

Tamara Zidansek – Ana Bogdan 3-6, 7-6(4), 7-5

Kaja Juvan – Jaqueline Cristian 6-2, 6-4

The Romanian pair also lost the decisive. The match was interrupted by rain, and the Slovenian pair won, bringing the result to 3-2.

Kaja Juvan / Tamara Zidansek – Irina Bara / Monica Niculescu 4-6, 6-2, 6-4.

Slovenia teaches Romania a valuable lesson: never give up, despite the odds against you. Also, the Slovenian team seemed more robust due to the fantastic connection between the players and the staff, while the Romanian women’s team is famous for the last scandals. On the one hand, the suspension of Simona Halep following the doping scandal; on the other hand, there is the latest scandal which implies another valuable player, Gabriela Ruse, who decided to withdraw from the team following, according to her statement, tension with her colleagues. Before her, in 2022, Sorana Cirstea and Irina Begu, other valuable players, decided to refuse to represent Romania in Billie Jean Cup any longer.

So, we have Slovenia, a solid team with enthusiastic players, helped by a fantastic audience, playing at home, and Romania, whose best players are suspended or withdrawn from the group. Who would you bet on?
