Romanian PM Florin Citu: Ex-Senator Is a Russian Spy!

Romanian Prime Minister Florin Citu accused a former member of the Romanian Parliament of being a Russian spy. This statement was made public, in front of his colleagues from the local Liberal Party in Tulcea, an Eastern county in Romania.

You saved Romania, you ousted from the Romanian Parliament a man who did a lot of harm, a senator of Tulcea, and you sent him to the private sector. There he can do harm as well, maybe, but only to a single corporation and he will lose, but I congratulate you! You saved Romania from a Russian spy and I congratulate you for this!

Florin Citu didn’t name the person who was a senator and a Russian spy at the same time. He also refused to answer the local press when they asked him for details about this.

These political declarations are likely not to be other than just what they are. Sometimes, the Romanian PM is famous for this sort of controversial statement.

On the other hand, apart from being just that, this kind of accusation can trigger a diplomatic conflict at any given moment, especially when they are made by the very PM of a country. One can defend the PM by saying that he didn’t talk as Prime Minister but as the leader of the Liberal Party. Yet, once you talk in public, the audience judges you from all perspectives and it is clearly taking into consideration all your public positions and privileges when judging you.
