Romanian Deputies reject law on amnesty

The Social Democrat Party and The Alliance of Liberals and Democrats have agreed to reject the draft law on amnesty and pardon in Parliament. The plenary vote took place on Wednesday, the Chamber of Deputies finding the decision-making forum on this law. There were 176 votes in favor, one against and two abstentions.

The Social Democrat Party deputies also voted to reject the Law of Amnesty and pardons, but called for the postponement of the debate on the rejection of the Law on compensatory appeal, which released more than 20,000 people in prison in two years.

The project provided for the entire sentence of prison sentences of up to 5 years. The project was initiated by the Grindeanu Government in 2017 and adopted in the same year by the Senate.
