Romanian Canoer Catalin Chirila Qualifies in World Kayak-Canoe Championships Finals

Romanian canoer, Catalin Chirila, qualified directly for the World Kayak-Canoe Championships Finals in Canada.

With a time of 1:50.27 on August 3, Chirila won the first heat and advanced directly to the final, which is set for August 6. The additional Romanian competitors reached the semi-finals.

With a time of 1:48.99, Darius Zaharia (K1 Men 500) finished third and moved on to the semifinals. Zaharia finished third in the K 1 Men 1,000m heat and moved on to the semifinals.

The semi-finals will include Oleg Nuta (C1 Men 200), who finished sixth in his heat with a time of 42.30.

Malina Trifescu and Laura Plesca advanced to the semi-finals in the K2 Women 200 event after finishing sixth in their heat with 44.65.

According to Agerpres, for the 2022 ICF Canoe Sprint and Paracanoe World Championships in Halifax, Romania has committed six kayakers and canoers under the direction of head coach Florin Popescu. Their goal is to place twice, once in the fourth through sixth positions and once in the sixth through ninth positions.
