Romanian Adrian Ghenie Sells ‘The Death of Charles Darwin’ for EUR 6 Million

Romanian Adrian Ghenie is one of the best artists of the new generation of international painters. His works already sell for millions and the young Romanian has become one of the best sellers in art auctions.

One of his recent works, ‘The Trip‘, was sold for EUR 5.14 million at Sotheby’s Hong Kong in April. Before that, ‘The Sunflowers of 1937‘ was sold for £3,177,000, while ‘Self-Portrait in 1945‘ was sold for EUR 1.15 million.

Now, the artist crossed another threshold for the value of his works. The Death of Charles Darwin was sold by Sotheby’s Hong Kong for almost EUR 6.1 million.

As Sotheby’s Hong Kong says it while presenting the young artist, Adrian Ghenie is a painter who knows how to create suspense, how to direct the scene and also how to provoke in the viewer, that magical mixture of anxiety and expectation that so many artists desire and only a few know.
