The French carmaker giant, Renault, is poised to announce 15,000 layoffs. The sales have dropped with 25% in the first three months of the year and the news are not promising for April as well.
The announcement is going to be made on Friday, May 29, according to a representative FDCL French Democratic Confederation of Labour (French: Confédération française démocratique du travail, CFDT).
The trade union representative said that Renault officials promised they would negotiate the layoffs with the Government and the unions in each case. In France, Renault is to cut off around 4,500 jobs in France, but most of them would occur through a voluntary departure plan and a retirement scheme.
Renault employs more than 179,000 people in 39 countries, including Romania, where there are around 14,000 workers employed at Dacia car plant in Mioveni, the South of the country. So far, no number was mentioned as for the Romanian workers affected by job cuts, but the Romanian unit is to be affected to some extent as well.
