Among other AI specialists, on the 22nd place there is Maria Axente, a Romanian artificial intelligence programme driver and AI for Good Lead at PwC in London. She talks about herself for the WeAre TechWomen:

Growing up in a small village in Transylvania, Romania, Star Trek and Star Wars was my window into the future and a world where technology has helped enhance humanity.
It was what drove my passion for technology as a driving force in human flourishing. And my Mum was my day to day inspiration, she still is, with her passion for maths, physics and science too (she was also my math teacher and one naming Alan Turing the first white hacker in history). So no wonder I ended up specializing in Computer science during high school!

Of course, she is not the only Romanian specialist in AI, but her inclusion in the Sifted top 30 is a personal achievement and also an achievement for a nation who has plenty of IT specialists and programmers who contribute to a surprising Romanian IT industry of almost EUR 6 billion this year.
