Romania Wins 10 Medals at the European Table Tennis Championship

Romania won six gold, one silver, and three bronze medals at Belgrade’s European cadet and junior European Table Tennis Championships.

According to Romanian Table Tennis Federation, the juniors (U19) managed the most successful record with four gold medals, one silver, and three bronze, while the cadets (U15) secured two gold medals.

Eduard Ionescu won the junior singles gold medal after defeating the bronze medalist Darius Movileanu with a score of 4-1 in the quarterfinals and Maciej Kubik of Poland with a score of 4-1 in the championship match.

According to Agerpres, Eduard Ionescu and Darius Movileanu won the men’s doubles gold after defeating Hugo Deschamps and Thibault Poret of France 3-0 in the championship match. Ionescu and Movileanu defeated Adrien Coton/Alexis Kouraichi, another French combination, in the semifinals 3-0.

Together with the German Annett Kaufmann, Iulian Chirita won the continental mixed doubles title. Darius Movileanu and Elena Zaharia took home the bronze.

Elena Zaharia won the bronze medal in the junior singles category after falling to Frenchwoman Charlotte Lutz in the semifinals (1-4).

Darius Movileanu, Iulian Chirita, Eduard Ionescu, Andrei Istrate, and Dragos Bujor, who were on the junior men’s team, took home the gold, while the junior women’s team, Elena Zaharia, Ioana Singeorzan, Camelia Mitrofan, Evelyn Ungvari, and Andrea Teglas took home the silver.

At the Under-15 level, the Romanian team of Alesia Sferlea, Bianca Mei-Rosu, Cristina Singeorzan, and Andreea Jifcu took home the gold medal. Bianca Mei-Rosu also won the double cadets European championship with Natalia Bogdanowicz of Poland. In the semifinals, Mei-Rosu and Bogdanowicz defeated the French team of Jade Quynh-Tien Huynh/Elise Pujol 3-1, and in the championship match, they triumphed against the German section of Koharu Itagaki/Josephina Neumann 3-0.
