World Art Day is celebrated worldwide on April 15th. This day reminds everyone that we all need more art in our daily lives.
Each year, on 15 April, UNESCO says that World Art Day celebrations help reinforce the links between artistic creations and society, encourage greater awareness of the diversity of artistic expressions and highlight the contribution of artists to sustainable development. It is also an occasion to shine a light on arts education in schools, as culture can pave the way for inclusive and equitable education.
The celebration of World Art Day is an initiative of the International Art Association within the XVII General Assembly in Guadalajara, Mexico, a day celebrated for the first time in 2012. The date was symbolically chosen to honour the memory of Leonardo da Vinci, a complex sculptor, painter, architect and inventor born on April 15.
Romania is one of the countries where culture is appreciated. Bucharest Art Galleries, always busy with art-loving enthusiasts, are living proof that art is loved in the country. Not only that, but nationwide, people enjoy art, classic or modern.
One of the places where tourists can discover Romanian art is the National Museum of Art in Bucharest, where artworks of famous Romanian painters, such as Nicolae Tonitza or Nicolae Grigorescu, are displayed. But, if you visit Bucharest, just across the street from the Museum of Art, one can discover artworks from international painters at the Cesianu Racovita Palace. Sometimes they display artworks of Dali or Picasso, but all art forms found their home there.
Also, art galleries at the National Military Circle host many creations of Romanian contemporary artists.
Ready to dive into Romanian art and culture? Art galleries, museums, and even street art remind us of the most beautiful connection between our souls and reality. Let’s celebrate it more often, not only on April 15th.
