Former Romanian PM to Launch Book of Memoirs with Disclosures about Period in Office

Former social-democrat PM Viorica Dancila, who was in office from January 29 until November 4 2019, when she was ousted following a no-confidence motion in Parliament, is about to launch a memoir-interview book.

According to her post on social media, this book will disclose some secrets from the period when she acted as PM, including facts about the infighting throughout 2018 and 2019, especially those with Liviu Dragnea, the former leader of the social-democratic party.

The book is called ‘Viorica Dancila – her share of truth‘ and it is about to be launch in the next period.

To answer the curiosity of some friends and of some non-friends, I confirm the fact that a memoir book is to be launch soon, a book I created in collaboration with the journalist Marga Nitu.

I talked about many of the challenges during the time when I was PM, including about the relation I had with Liviu Dragnea, but also about the political campaigns from 2019 and about the collaboration with those who run PSD – Social Democratic Party. (…) There are things to be old, because PSD cannot be rebuilt but on the truth and on the objective analysis of the problems of the past.

Viorica Dancila, former PM, about the launching of her memoir

Currently, PSD is in the Opposition, and the party has been undergoing an internal political ‘cleansing’, with the current leaders trying to remove from power all those who allied with the former leaders, including Liviu Dragnea and Viorica Dancila.

Liviu Dragnea was the leader of the Social-Democratic Party until his sentence to prison for corruption. Following this episode, the remaining leaders tried to erase his image and his influence from within the party. The memoir-interview book comes in a moment when PSD is sent to 4 long years in the Opposition following the general elections from December 2020.

Though Viorica Dancila was not one of the most beloved Romanian PMs, it is expected the book to generate some interest, especially because it involves big names on the Romanian political scene in the recent years.
