Romanian Authorities Worried For Increasing Number of Serious Traffic Accidents

Romanian police say that in the first seven months of this year, 2.586 road accidents occurred. Unfortunately, Romania has the highest mortality rate of car accidents in Europe.

Speeding was the leading cause of traffic accidents in Romania. At the same time, in 2021, drinking by drivers and pedestrians who were jaywalking remained a major concern. As a result, 1,452 male automobile drivers who were under the influence of alcohol were engaged in car accidents involving at least one person.

Police officers noticed that most car accidents were produced by tired people en route to their holiday destination. Drivers are more likely to make mistakes when they are tired because of the lack of sleep or other reasons that cause them to feel fatigued.

Another reason for car accidents is the poor road infrastructure. Uneven road surfaces can cause a driver to lose control of their vehicle, leading to a crash or rollover accident injuring the driver, passengers, and pedestrians.

Romania doesn’t have a highway to cross the country, therefore it gets difficult to drive from one city to another if the distance between them is above a certain limit. In small villages, you have to pay attention to the pedestrians, especially at the kids playing o the street. Moreover, during the night on some roads, you have to be extra careful because of the animals that could jump in front of your car.

The Romanian Authorities also stated that the absence of some road signs or the presence of obstacles and vegetation are the main reasons for car accidents.
