Another tragedy hits Romania, similar to what happened in November in Piatra-Neamt, Northern Romania, when 10 patients died in fire while being treated for COVID-19. This time, another incident of the kind happened in Bucharest.
At 5.05 AM, on Friday, January 29, a call was made to 112, the national emergency number: there was a fire at “Matei Bals Hospital“, the main Bucharest hospital for treating COVID-19 cases. The firefighters arrived in minutes, but for 4 patients the intervention was too late: they were already dead.
The authorities don’t want to speculate on the cause of the fire, but what is known is that all the patients were treated by being administered oxygen. Other 102 patients were also evacuated to other hospitals.
A criminal investigation for manslaughter is opened by the prosecutors to determine the cause of the incident and who is to be blamed for the four deaths.
