Romanian boxer Flavius Biea won the vacant IBA World Champion belt in the middle category. Biea defeated Argentine Juan Jose Velasco on Friday night in a 12-innings match in a professional gala hosted by the Polyvalent Hall in Mioveni.
Biea has reached 22 wins (10 KO) and has only one defeat (KO), being the WBA Continental champion, four-time IBA Intercontinental champion and WBC Continental Latin Silver champion.
Nicknamed “The People’s Champ”, Biea is the fifth Romanian boxer to win a world championship in any category. Before him, there were other titans, such as Leonard Doroftei, Lucian Bute, Adrian Diaconu, and Mhai Leu.
Although he was dominated by Velasco, who hit more clearly and showed more speed, Biea was seen as the winner by two of the referees-judges (115-112 and 116-112), while the third credited Velasco with the victory (115-112). Flavius Biea is the 5th Romanian boxer to become a professional world champion, and the rest is history.
