First Romanian Whisky Launches Internationally

The first Romanian single malt whisky launched internationally will be available on the Romanian Market in September 2022.

The creation of Carpathian Single Malt Whiskey, which uses only malted barley from Romania and pure water from the Subcarpathian highlands, was overseen by Mr. Nawaf Salameh, the founder and president of the Alexandrion Group. Carpathian Single Malt is produced without cold filters and has a 46% alcohol content. Its natural hue results from its exclusive barrel maturation.

We have been distilling and aging single malt whiskey since 2017, still honing casks from all over Europe and the US. This is the first chance single malt enthusiasts will have to enjoy a whiskey from the Carpathians.

The first Romanian single malt whiskey was also aged in Romanian wine barrels, a first for Alexandrion Group in this business. Thus, Alexandrion Group joins a select group of manufacturers who age single malt whiskey in wine barrels from their cellars.

In other words, we declared that we entered the single malt category, not shyly, not through intermediaries, but directly. The niche we entered – fortunately for us and unfortunately for others – neither the Scots nor the Japanese can do it because they don’t have the capacity to produce wines that Romania has, as well as the culture we have because all of us here know what a very good wine means if we want to make a nice single malt finish.

The use of Romanian wine casks is a “world first” in terms of single malt production, despite Romania’s 2,000-year history of wine production. Romanian customers will access the Carpathian Single Malt in September through premium stores.
