Romania draws 1-1 vs. Northern Ireland on Friday, at home, on National Arena, in its first game in Group 1, League B. The National team had full control of the game, except for the moment when the Northern Ireland equalized in ’86. George Puscas scored for Romania in ’25 and in ’39 Northern Ireland lost one player after a red card, finishing the game with only 10 team players.
This was the debut game of Marcel Radoi, the new Romanian coach. Despite the very offensive starting formula, its team lost a good opportunity to gain the first 3 points. In the same time, Romania failed to start strong in a group which can offer the much-wanted qualification to the European Football Championship. Romania, one of theco- hosts of the European tournament, is not yet qualified and the Nations League is the last chance for taking the tickets to the final groups.
In the other game of Group 1, League B, Austria beat Norway in Oslo, 2-1. The next game of the Romanian team takes place on Monday, September 7, when they will face Austria away..
