NATO Secretary-General Visits US Military Base in Romania

The Secretary-General of NATO, Jens Stoltenberg and the President of Romania, Klaus Johannis, held a press conference on Friday, February 11, on the secretary’s visit to the 57th Air Base from Mihail Kogălniceanu.

Discussions highlighted the importance of holding diplomatic talks between NATO and Russia. The official talks between the President of Romania and the Secretary-General of NATO also underlined a series of strategic perspectives of defence in the Eastern flank.

The message of the two politicians to the Romanian people is that NATO’s purpose is to maintain peace and protect allied countries.

NATO is a defensive alliance and we are here to protect peace. There is no doubt that the aggressive factor comes from Russia

Meanwhile, Klaus Johannis assured the Romanian citizens that NATO offers the necessary security for the country in the complicated regional context.

Romania is well defended and has all the security guarantees. From this point of view, the Romanian armed forces have developed enormously in recent years and are very well prepared. Romania is in the NATO alliance, the strongest military alliance, a purely defensive alliance, but we want to ensure the security of the country and our citizens. Romania is a safe country.
