According to a recent study conducted by IRES, one of the reputable Romanian research institutes, 8 out of 10 unvaccinated Romanians will stick to their initial decision and won’t get vaccinated in the future. Their decision, according to the answers, cannot be changed or influenced by anybody or anything.
28% of the unvaccinated Romanians say they don’t trust the vaccine, while 14% say they consider they don’t need the vaccine.
This finding bluntly contradicts the expectations of the Romanian authorities. The coordinator of the vaccination campaign, military colonel Valeriu Gheorghita, hoped for a 70% vaccination rate by the end of this year. That means that each day 80,000 Romanians should take the jab, an unrealistic number, to say it delicately.
The authorities try to impose the Green Pass in Romania to get a higher vaccination rate. Unfortunately for them, the Green Pass law has already failed in the Senate. It has a chance for being voted in the Chamber of Deputies, but, until then, as the President of the National Discrimination Council stated, the Green Pass is illegal in Romania.
The study shows that, from the 60% of unvaccinated people in Romania, only a tiny fraction will be willing to get vaccinated. If the survey is correct, the authorities could hope to get a maximum of 50% of the population vaccinated, the rest resisting any form of persuasion, incentives, or even restrictions. The discrimination between the vaccinated and the unvaccinated, with the latest being restricted from entering shops, malls, and even public institutions, is one of the strategies the Romanian Government, already dismissed in the Parliament, hopes to get the vaccination rate higher.
The daily number of COVID-19 cases in Romania is decreasing but still keeps above 12,000. What’s more disturbing is the daily number of deaths, which exceeds 400.
