Bucharest is one of the cities filled with Asian immigrants. Most fled their miserable lives in their native countries and arrived in Romania’s Capital looking for a decent job. But decent jobs are hard to find in Bucharest, especially for an Asian immigrant with little or no knowledge.

Hence, Asians got to work in street cleaning, garbage management or food delivery. The last one is what makes Bucharest a chaotic city currently, as all these Asians driving their scooters in one of the most jammed cities in Europe wreak havoc.

Tens of serious accidents involving reckless Asian drivers delivering food made not only the clients skip their lunch, but also the Bucharest Police Department think about how to make all these bad drivers understand they drive in Europe now. And when the police realized how bad the situation was, they started teaching…driving lessons with the immigrants.

It’s enough to watch some videos on YouTube to understand how Asians drive in their native countries.

This is unacceptable if this is normal in Vietnam or any other chaotic country, in Bucharest. This is why Bucharest Police started driving lessons to make the immigrants understand the laws in Romania and the EU.

The preventive and educational activities the Bucharest Road Brigade carries out are a priority. In this context, I approved the organization of such a road education seminar. It is essential to explain that traffic rules save lives. During this event, we presented, in English, an introduction to road legislation so that delivery people coming from countries with different traffic cultures would first know the traffic rules and then understand the obligation to comply with them. Through such presentations, we hope to decrease the number of road incidents involving foreign nationals performing delivery services.
Bucharest Police Department official about reckless Asian driving

In English? But of course, only that most of these Valentino Rossi failed wannabes understand no other language but their native one. We’re unsure how many of them correctly understood what they were taught, but one thing is for sure – there are thousands of such reckless drivers in Bucharest, more thousands coming each month, and it is impossible to teach them proper driving in due time.

The mistake is, obviously, a strategic one. It belongs to the Government, but the officials fear to admit that. When offering close to 1 million working permits to all these poor drivers in just a few years, one should expect that Bucharest will turn in Ho Chi Minh in one decade.

At the moment, we advise paying attention to any delivery guy on a moped if you drive in Bucharest (which we don’t recommend, by the way). They are unpredictable and chaotic and turn suddenly, expecting the others to make room in traffic for them.

Will this madness on the Bucharest streets end soon? We’re not quite sure about that, as in one week schools are starting in Romania. That will make Bucharest even more chaotic, and the serious accidents and death toll will increase exponentially.

If you add that many Ukrainian refugees drive chaotically in Romania, causing tens of deaths and injuries, the picture is more adequate, and one should understand why Bucharest is not the safest city to drive in. As long as the Romanian Government is too blind to see that all these immigrants are a risk to Bucharest residents, things can only worsen.

As reported by Simple Flying, Romania’s Dan Air behind Airbus A320 flights on June 1st. Previously known as Just Us Air, Dan Air has 18 scheduled routes. The name comes from Captain Dan Luhas, who set up Just Us Air, a wet lease and charter operator.

According to ch-aviation.com, Dan Air has two A320s and one A319, with a third A320 coming. It has an average fleet age of 15.6 years. It appears that its A320s will be used on its scheduled flights.

Dan Air has 18 routes bookable: 11 from Romania’s capital, Bucharest, and seven from Brasov. Brasov-Ghimbav is a new airport that is set to open in June, serving the country’s sixth most populous city. While it is not yet fully definite, it appears the IATA code will be BRV, previously used by Germany’s Bremerhaven.

According to the source mentioned above, Dan Air’s inaugural flight is due to leave Bucharest for Nuremberg on June 1st. JOC101 is scheduled to depart at 06:00, and JOC102 is expected to return at 16:40.

Several companies have tried to cover the gap following Blue Air’s insolvency. After the company suspended all flights, Wizz, Dan and AirConnect fought to supply in a demanding market. Competition is good, let’s see about the quality of the services all these companies provide.

Smooth flights!

There seems not to be very good news for Bucharest. Drivers in the city are in second place in Europe by time lost in traffic because of congestion, according to the latest analysis of TomTom on the most congested cities in the world.

Driving in the city’s dense urban area lost 143 hours yearly to traffic. People driving on Bucharest’s roads spent 277 hours commuting at peak hours.

The only upside for drivers in the Romanian capital is that, on average, a typical 10 km journey took 10 seconds less in 2022 than in 2021. So, drivers in Bucharest might be some of the biggest losers to traffic at peak times, but overall, traffic has improved slightly since last year. In Dublin, the time got worse by nearly two minutes.

I might be 10 seconds less, but the whooping time spent driving 10 km in the city is huge: 27 minutes 20 seconds take an average Bucharest driver to cover this distance.

Average time for Bucharest drivers to drive 10 km in 2022

Bucharest is 7 in the world as the most congested city, but it’s more to it than that. It’s about the pollution that generates such terrible traffic, the diseases resulting from it, and the economic loss caused by the time spent in traffic jams. In fact, according to TomTom, the time lost annually by Bucharest drivers in traffic equals the time needed to read 55 books.

If no congestion in the city, there will be 143 hours spent wisely for each driver. Or less wisely, but even so, drivers could spend their leisure time the way they want. Yes, it’s idealist, but still, hours can be shaved off this statistic by improving the traffic in the city.

What is to be done? Bucharest Mayors try everything, from smart traffic lights and one-way traffic streets to improving public transport in the city, but nothing seems to work. It seems drivers in Bucharest could use the time spent in traffic more innovatively. Instead of cursing the other drivers and horning all the time, one could better learn Japanese on CD. Or German. Or Norwegian. Or any exotic language out there. Having the long calls of the day, while using hands-free, might also seem a good idea. Either way, when you know you have 277 hours spent in traffic each year, you only now realize that time is money.

Because of the drought, a significant drop in water levels stuck hundreds of ships on the Romanian-Bulgarian portion of the Danube.

According to Agerpres, the lowest water levels registered in Bulgaria were found in the vicinity of the islands of Belene and Batin. There is currently 1.30 meters of water. No ships are now grounded, as captains stay away from the area and wait for the water level to rise before setting sail. However, this results in losses for businesses and shipowners.

There were similar low water situations in 2003 as well as 2018, but now the drought has come too soon and this will probably be the worst year for river transport.
Ivan Zhekov, head of the Ruse River Surveillance Directorate

However, the water level of the Danube is not likely to rise any time soon. Also, on the Romanian side, where there was water a few months ago, there is only sand. Three-quarters of the Danube can be crossed on foot, all the way to the Bulgarians.

Moreover, the drought slows down the transport of goods on the Danube. In order not to suspend the transportation of goods on the Danube, Romania is also dredging in the Bulgarian area after the neighbouring country abandoned the works.

Maintaining a constant and stable transport flow on the Danube is essential. The leading waterway network in Europe is the Rhine-Danube. The Rhine Basin is Europe’s most developed and well-maintained river transport network. It covers 80% of freight transport. The Danube connects Kelheim with Sulina and the North Sea with the Black Sea. 42% of the navigable route, approximately 1,075 kilometres, is in Romania.

Constanta, Romania’s Black Sea port, is taking extra traffic of 6,000-7,000 containers per day that can no longer reach Ukraine’s ports, especially Odessa.

The National Company of Constanta Ports Administrations announced on Monday a new all-time-record for the freight transport registered through Romanian sea ports in 2019. Even if the number might give you chills, the annual freight transported through Romanian sea ports exceeded 66.6 million tons.

This is an all-time-record and exceeds with 8.64 % the total freight shipped through the Romanian sea ports in 2018, which was around 61.3 million tons.

Notably, the previous record was registered in 1988, with 62.3 million tons of goods. This means Romania only now reached the capacity of sea freight transport it has before the Romanian Revolution.

The largest share of the total goods transported were cereals (32%), which was expected, as Romania is one of the top cereal exporting countries in Europe. In fact, Romanian sea ports registered a commercial traffic of more than 21 million tons, which strengthens Romania’s position as a cereal hub in Europe.
