Five other agricultural cooperatives from Dâmboviţa, Hunedoara, Ilfov and Olt counties join the “Țara Mea (My Country)” Cooperative. These cooperatives will benefit from the experience and expertise of the specialists and will have access to all the facilities provided by the “Țara Mea” Agricultural Cooperative.
“Țara Mea” has over 1000 farmers, thus being the largest agricultural cooperative in Romania. This season it managed to deliver over 10,000 tons of Romanian vegetables, supplied by 300 producers in the country.
Florin Burculescu, the president of the “Ţara Mea” Cooperative, specified that he intends to deliver the vegetables in almost all the big retail chains in Romania. He also supports the introduction of cost standards that will allow farmers to receive a fair price all year round.
As in the case of grain production, Romania’s vegetable production was 30% lower this year as compared to last year, but this decrease was offset by the price, which was higher. The draught lowered the production, but increased the prices.
Currently, “Ţara Mea” is preparing the largest national vegetable platform. The online platform will ensure direct contact between local farmers and hypermarkets, without intermediaries, the stated goal being to halve imports.
According to studies, the import of vegetables is recorded even in July – August, when Romania abounds in local vegetables. This import is to be avoided in the future if the local producers organize themselves into cooperatives like this and deliver their vegetables to the local stores.
