Since the war in Ukraine began, tens of thousands of kids have entered Romania. According to data in March, 180,000 underaged refugees have entered Romania, but not all remain in the country. Most of them continued their journey to Western countries.
Many left their dads behind; others came along with their grandparents or distant relatives. All of them need the feeling that life can go on for them, as it did before the war started in their own country.
One of the ways that convey this feeling is by going to school. The Romanian Ministry of Education decided to offer all the Ukrainian kids a chance and enroll them in Romanian schools and kindergartens. Thousands of children will be able to continue their education despite the terrible conflict that interrupted their everyday life.
According to a press release from the Ministry of Education, 2,000 Ukrainian kids have asked to be enrolled so far, and 1,700 were already accepted into the Romanian schools and kindergartens.
They have the same rights as the Romanian kids, including the right to free education, free accommodation, and free stationery items for school purposes. It’s just a tiny gesture, but with great significance, and Romania does everything it can to assist the Ukrainian refugees of all ages establishing, even temporarily, in Romania.
