Updated on 10/06/2021: according to the new rules, the National Arena in Bucharest can host up to 50% of the stadium capacity, meaning more than 27,000 spectators in the stands. However, the spectators need to meet the entrance criteria for being allowed inside the stadium.
UEFA European Football Championship 2020, referred as UEFA Euro 2020, as most of you already know, has been postponed for 2021. That was an exceptional measure and it was taken because of the pandemic. Yet, the tournament keeps its original name and it will still be UEFA Euro 2020 and not UEFA Euro 2021.
What you also have to know, if you didn’t, is the fact that this championship offers, apart from this postponing, another premiere – it is organized between 11 June to 11 July by 12 different cities across 12 different UEFA countries, including Romania. And maybe this will show the world the fact that the European country are united more than ever, against the pandemic or against any other social threats or emergencies.
And, if we mentioned Romania, we have to remind our dear readers about a third premiere regarding this tournament: it will be for the first time in history when an organizing nation won’t have its national football team playing. How did that happen? Apart from the way the players did their job on the field, most important was that, due to the high number of countries to organize the event, all of them entered the qualifications.
In Bucharest there are scheduled the fixtures from a group with Austria, North Macedonia and Ukraine. Also, a round of 16 will be played on National Arena, the biggest Romanian stadium with 55,600 seats.
But how many spectators will be allowed on National Arena in Bucharest during the games?
According to the local organizing committee, following this Wednesday’s discussions with UEFA representatives, up to 25% of the stadium’s capacity will be allowed, meaning up to 13,000 spectators. This decision was taken by the Ministry of Youth and Sports on 6th of April 2021.
Will it be enough for the fans? Certainly not, but the pandemic has to be fought even during the tournament. Therefore, rules are to be applied in all the European cities to organize the games. Read more about the rules of access on National Arena in Bucharest.
