Romanian PM: Romania Will Vaccinate 70% of Its Active Population by September

Romanian PM announced that Romania will vaccinate 70% of its active population by September this year.

Our goal is to vaccinate 10.4 million people by September 2021, which means 70% of the active population, which also means we can get on the other side of the pandemic.

Romanian PM Florin Citu on the goal of the vaccination campaign in Romania

Specialists say that, if 70% of a certain population has been vaccinated or has been through this disease, chances are for the herd immunity or community immunity to be reached.

Community immunity in Romania can be reached even sooner than September, if we calculate the number of people who already got infected. These are the ones who are also add to this 70%.

So far more than 860,000 Romanians have been identified as infected with the new coronavirus, which means that, by the end of September, there will be more than 1 million people who would have got infected and survived this disease.

Romania has a good vaccination rate so far, but the PM wants to stress the importance of the immunization campaign in a context when the daily number of cases exceeded 6,000 after a good while.

Also, Florin Citu told the press he was not a fan of imposing tough restrictions:

If we want to keep the economy open, it solely depends on us. The economy goes to the direction where we all want it to be steered and I am not a fan of tough restrictions.

The vaccination campaign goes well as reported to the doses we have received so far. Each time when the opportunity of getting additional doses appeared, we accepted.
