Romania Under Orange Code for Snow

Heavy snow and blizzards are expected in half the country, and Romania is under Orange Code for snow. Winter came earlier than expected and, again, took the authorities unprepared for the season.

Romania’s Government asked the local authorities to be prepared to intervene if the situation needs such intervention. Also, a special meeting will be held with the responsible officials from each Energy, Transport and Internal Affairs minister.

The public railway transport CFR has already announced it is cancelling many departures, especially the ones to and from Constanta, near the seaside.

In Bucharest, it snows on Saturday night, and specialists expect a 10 cm coat of snow in the morning. Many residents haven’t yet changed their tires with winter ones, and long queues are expected at the specialized car shops.

The orange code could turn red if the blizzard and snow continue. The current code expires on Sunday, but the situation is dynamic, and authorities must adapt to nature’s caprices.
