No Visa Needed for Romanians to Enter UK from January 1, Exceptions

As we all know, from January 1st, UK is becoming a third party state in relation with the EU states, including Romania. The negotiations for a soft Brexit, meaning a regulated one, are in their final phase, but a no-deal Brexit is the most probable at the moment, as no agreement is going to be reached until January 1st 2021.

The Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated clearly that Romanians won’t need a visa when entering the UK from January 1st, but there are some rules to be applied:

  • NO VISA for short entries, such as for travel purpose or up to 6 months
  • VISA IS REQUIRED when the Romanian citizen wants to work or study in the UK or to stay there more than 6 months
  • NO PASSPORT REQUIRED for entries before September 30 2021, but after that the passport is required for all entries, disregard of the purpose.

The negotiations for a regulated Brexit will definitely continue after January 1st, as both the EU and the UK want to solve the remaining chapter, fishing. One can find more about why fishing is so important to British people by reading the BBC post on the issue.
