New school year starts in Romania

A number of 2,824,594 kindergarten students and pupils started today the school year 2019 – 2020, according to the Ministry of National Education. (MEN)
The duration of the new school year is 35 weeks of courses, structured in two semesters. The first semester begins on September 9, 2019 and ends on December 20, 2019, and the second semester begins on January 13, 2020 and ends on June 12, 2020. Students in the 12th grade will finish their courses earlier, specifically on 29 May. And the students of the eighth grades will finish the school year 2019-2020 earlier, on June 5, 2020. The courses will be taught this school year by a total number of 215,289 teachers, in 6,293 educational units with legal personality and 11,171 rounded structures, according to the Ministry of National Education.
Student holidays in all education cycles are scheduled as follows:

• winter vacation (December 21, 2019 – January 12, 2020)
• spring break (April 4 – April 21, 2020)
• summer vacation (June 13 – September 2020, when the school year 2020 – 2021 will start).
