According to the Top Most Profitable South European Companies published annually by SEE News, Romanian companies are the most performant.
The journalists used the public financial data of companies from Romania, Moldova, Bulgaria, Slovenia, Croatia, North Macedonia, and Serbia and came up with these results.
Romanian companies are the top performers in South-Eastern Europe by net profit
Romanian do-it-yourself retailer Dedeman is the top performer, with a net profit of almost EUR 300 million, followed by Hidroelectrica, with a net profit of EUR 298,1 million, OMV Petrom with EUR 283,7 million, and Romgaz with EUR 262,6 million.
Dedeman is present in our top as well. It is one of the biggest Romanian companies by annual turnover.
Dedeman is a hypermarket chain with 100% Romanian capital offering home improvement and do-it-yourself goods. The motto is “Dedicated to your plans”. It is based in Northern Romania but operates 54 stores all over the country.

Romanian Automobile-Dacia SA is the top performer by this criteria, with a turnover in 2020 of EUR 3814.4 million, followed by OMV Petrom SA, with a turnover of EUR 3808.4 million and OMV Petrom Marketing SRL with a turnover of EUR 2996.8 million.
Automobile-Dacia SA is the producer of Dacia, the Romanian car brand, and the sales increased lately, Dacia becoming one of the most preferred cars by the European drivers.
Romanian banks are among the top performers in South-Eastern Europe by the value of assets
Banca Transilvania leads this top, with total assets worth EUR 21,225 million, followed by Zagrebacka Banka dd from Croatia and Banca Comerciala Romana from Romania.
Also, another Romanian bank, BRD – Groupe Societe Generale SA, made it to 5th in 2020.
