December 1st – Romania’s National Day

December 1st is a special day for Romania. It is the country’s National Day, also known as Great Union Day, and commemorates the unification of Transylvania, Bessarabia, and Bukovina with the Old Kingdom of Romania in 1918. This historic event marked the fulfillment of a long-held dream of the Romanian people to create a united nation-state.

On this day in 1918, the Great National Assembly of Alba Iulia, composed of representatives from all over Transylvania, voted unanimously to unite with the Kingdom of Romania. This decision was followed by similar resolutions in Bessarabia and Bukovina, and by the end of the year, Romania had finally achieved its full territorial extent.

Great Union Day is a day of celebration for all Romanians, both at home and abroad. It is a day to remember the sacrifices made by those who fought for unity and to reaffirm the country’s commitment to democracy and freedom.

In Bucharest, there will be the Great Parade to honour Romania’s Great Union Day, to the enchantment of kids and adults alike, and to all those who live and feel like Romanians.

Happy anniversary, Romania!

Happy anniversary, proud Romanian people!
