Approximately 500 Romanian, American, French and Italian soldiers participated in the Command Exercise DACIAN SPRING 2023 – “DASP23”, held between May 8-12, in units of the Romanian Land Forces in Medgidia, Constanța county and Smârdan, county Galatians.
The military involved in the exercise are part of the Multinational Command Southeast Division/HQ MND-SE, the Multinational Brigade Command Southeast/HQ MN BDE-SE, the French Rapid Reaction Brigade, the 1st (US) Combat Brigade/1 (US) BCT, Romania NATO Battle Group with France as Framework Nation / ROU BG ( FRA FN), Bulgaria NATO Battle Group with Italy as Framework Nation / BGR BG (ITA FN).
The purpose of “DACIAN SPRING 2023” was to validate the rapid deployment in real time of the Command Post of the French Brigade in the South-East operations area and the integration process by testing NATO and national procedures of the forces under the command and control Multinational Command of the Southeast Division.
The Chief of the Defense Staff, General Daniel Petrescu, appreciated that the exercise confirmed the high reaction capacity of the NATO Battle Groups in Romania and Bulgaria and the ability of the Multinational Command of the Southeast Division to conduct a defensive operation in its area of responsibility. “It was a collective effort, which carries the prerequisites for success”, General Petrescu said.
“The exercise represents an opportunity for all participating structures to test the level of interoperability, and the experience gained after it will contribute to the improvement of the planning and execution of the following activities”, underlined the commander of the Multinational Command of the Southeast Division, Major General Dorin Toma.
