According to the French journalists, citing French MPs, the vaccination campaign starts in all EU countries in the same time. This would give a signal to all the European citizens that no country is left behind in the fight against COVID-19 and will also speak about the unity which is supposed to bond all the EU members.
This decision is also trying to fix the first impression from the beginning of the year and to make the Europeans forget about the chaotic way in which the EU institutions responded to the pandemic, failing to adopt a certain common strategy. During the pandemic, countries took different measures and applied the WHO recommendations to different extents.
Even now, the European countries approach the Covid-19 vaccination differently, with most of the states waiting for Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine, while others already contracted the Chinese vaccine or the Russian version, Sputnik V, such as Hungary.
The pressure is on for the European Medicines Agency (EMA) to approve the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine until December 21. This will allow countries to start the vaccination campaign in 2020, the year of the pandemic in Europe. Each country will receive the same amount of doses contracted by the European Commission as reported to the population.
