Bucharest to Celebrate 563 Years of Existence

Bucharest Days or Bucharest Anniversary is expected in September, with many exciting events and activities for the residents of the capital.

Capital City Hall, through ARCUB, is organizing the Bucharest Days event between 16-18 September. The expected events are the Bucharest Jazz Festival (16-18 September, Combinatul Fondului Plastic), the exhibition From Ţepeş to Brâncuşi – 5 centuries of history and culture in the Romanian space (16-18 September, ARCUB, Hanul` Garboveni), the Pedestrian Streets – Bucharest, Urban Promenade (September 17-18, Calea Victoriei), Dâmboviţa Delivery (16-18 September, Timpuri Noi – Mihai Bravu) and the Story from Old Bucharest concert (18 September, Odeon Theatre).

It is an excellent opportunity to celebrate 563 years of Bucharest’s existence in a bohemian autumn context. Such events are necessary in Bucharest, such a lively city where music and merriment are always on the sidewalks. With this occasion, people will be able to enjoy a jazz music festival, get to know better the history and culture in the Romanian area, roam the most beautiful streets of the Capital and fall in love again with little Paris.

Bucharest Days starts on Friday, September 16 with the opening of the Bucharest Jazz Festival at the Plastic Fund Combine. The only open-air jazz festival in the Capital, Bucharest Jazz Festival returns to the city’s cultural agenda after a two-year hiatus with a dedicated edition for the Romanian jazz.

The From Ţepeş to Brâncuşi – 5 centuries of history and culture in the Romanian space exhibition for those passionate about history opens on Friday, September 16, at ARCUB – Hanul Gabroveni during “Bucharest Days”. One of the most ambitious and courageous exhibition projects from Romania, this event illustrates the history and culture of Romanians throughout the last five centuries through a wide selection of over 350 maps, books, historical documents and rare images, many of which are being exhibited for the first time to the public. The exhibition can be visited between September 16 and October 22, between 12:00 and 20.00, at ARCUB Gabroveni.

The Pedestrian Streets on the Calea Victoriei street represents the 17th pedestrian weekend, is taking place in the context of the Bucharest Days anniversary. Thus, between September 17 and 18, “Pedestrian Streets” offers the citizens of Bucharest a (re)friendship with the city where they live and transform Calea Victoriei in an island of temporary relaxation with urban walks and a series of recreational activities and outdoor artistic events.

Dambovita Delivery takes place within the “Pedestrian Streets -Bucharest” during September 16-18. Organized by Nod Makerspace, Cărturești Foundation and the Ivan Patzaichin Association – Mile 23, the project capitalizes on Dambovita as a green artery which transforms into a vibrant public space where people can enjoy water, fauna and flora. For three days, on the Timpuri Noi – Mihai Bravu, the river segment, Dambovita Delivery reclaims the water with water sports and enlivens the street
shows, workshops and cultural and sports activities for adults and children.

The concert Story From Old Bucharest evokes the Little Paris atmosphere and it’s scheduled for Sunday, September 18, at the Odeon Theatre. From the famous tangos, foxtrots and swings heard mainly in vaudeville and revue theatres of Bucharest of the past. With classical and cafe-concert music, the show proposes a foray into the fascinating life of the stories of a world almost lost and buried under layers of oblivion and which the music reconstitutes in an incomparable way. The concert features Romanian song performed by Miruna Ionescu and Valentin Albeșteanu, accompanied by Taraful de Oraş and tenor Alin Stoica as a guest.
