Romania Finishes First Phase of BRUA Pipeline

Phase 1 of BRUA pipeline project is ready! This was possible with the efforts of the Romanian state gas transport company. TRANSGAZ.

The project is a very ambitious, yet practical one and aims at diminishing the dependency of the European countries from the Russian gas.

BRUA is the pipeline which connects Bulgaria, Romania, Hungary and Austria, countries which will all receive natural gas from the Black Sea. There, a consortium of two companies, OMV Petrom and possibly ROMGAZ, who eyes the 50% participation of ExxonMobil in Neptun Deep, tries to bring the gas up to surface for being transported and exploited. The exploitation is to start delivering gas in 2025 the earliest, but there are still technical issues to be solved until then. An estimated 200 billion cubic meters natural gas reserve is under the Black Sea within Neptun Deep offshore block.

The CEO of TRANSGAS, Ion Sterian, reported difficulties in relation with his counterparts from Greece and Bulgaria, therefore these two countries are not yet connected to BRUA.
